Posted on Dec 29, 2007 under Actress |British-American supermodel and actress Selita Ebanks was born on February 15, 1983, in George Town, in the Cayman Islands. Selita began her modeling career at age 17 when a modeling scout at Six Flags in New Jersey discovered her. She’s modeled for “Ralph Lauren,” Levi’s,” “Abercrombie & Finch” and “Tommy Hilfinger,” and she made her television debut on “The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.” Selita’s acting credits include a small role on the UPN sex-and-surf drama “South Beach” and a guest appearance on “Still Standing.” She also helped to start the Stardom Youth Foundation in the Cayman Islands.
Selita Ebanks has come a long way from her humble beginnings in the Cayman Islands, where she lived in a small “shack” with her seven brothers. Despite having been accepted to several top-tier schools in the United States, where she had originally planned to study law, Ebanks’ move to New York City ultimately resulted in a successful modeling career. Though she has modeled for a variety of high-profile fashion labels, Ebanks is best known for her part in lingerie giant Victoria’s Secret Angels ad campaigns. Like fellow model Tyra Banks, who Ebanks describes as a mentor, she is one of the few women of color to have graced the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.
