By pressing the caterpillar’s legs it teaches them the alphabet, but Knutty Frye discovered the right combination of buttons seemed to turn the furry teacher into a foul-mouthed insect. According to NBC 4 Frye made the company aware of the problem.
The report from the news station details in an online report that Frye contacted the company, but he said they didn’t share his concern.
“I was told to take it back to the store I got it from and get my money back,” Frye said. “There was no concern at all to the fact it was saying bad words.”
The editorial review from Amazon describes the toy this way, “Here’s a learning toy that offers kids a wonderful, interactive introduction to the world of letters, sounds, and colors. Alphabet Pal features several ways to play–pull the string and, antennae flashing, the jolly green caterpillar rolls happily along singing the alphabet song. When one of the caterpillar’s 26 multicolored alphabet legs is pressed, kids hear the name of that color, letter, or letter sound depending on which mode they choose.”
NBC 4 from Washington, DC notes that A representative from Leapfrog did not return phone calls from WESH, the NBC affiliate in Orlando, Fla. According to the report a Wal-Mart representative said the problem appeared to be a manufacturing error.
